Prompt: compare software quotes on the same footing
Put three quotes side by side for the same seats and the same 12 months, with the arithmetic shown, and no winner declared while a required cost is still missing.
Works with: ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini
The task
Compare vendor quotes on a like-for-like first-year cost, without the AI filling in fees nobody gave you.
Use only these fictional quotes. Compare 20 seats for 12 months in CAD, before tax. Show arithmetic for subscription, setup and known total. Separate included training from unpriced training. Do not guess missing fees, discounts, taxes, exchange rates or renewal prices. Training is required for this purchase: rank known totals, but do not declare an overall same-scope winner while required training is unpriced. A: CAD18 per seat per month; CAD400 setup; training included. B: CAD210 per seat per year; CAD900 setup; training included. C: CAD320 per month includes 20 seats; CAD0 setup; training excluded; training fee not supplied. Return Vendor | Calculation | Known first-year CAD total | Training status | Unresolved comparison question.
How to use it
- Run it with the fictional quotes and redo one calculation by hand.
- Replace A, B and C with your real quotes, in the same units (seats, months, setup).
- Ask each vendor the unresolved questions before you choose.
What you get
A table with the calculation for each vendor, the known first-year total, the training status and the question still open. No overall winner while a required cost is unpriced.
(excerpts) A: 18 × 20 seats × 12 months = 4,320 … Total: 4,320 + 400 = 4,720 (training included) B: 210 × 20 seats = 4,200 … + 900 = 5,100 (training included) C: 320 × 12 months = 3,840 (covers all 20 seats) = 3,840 (training not included) What is C's training fee? C costs less than A only if training is under CAD 880 (4,720 − 3,840). Overall winner: none yet. C's 3,840 is a minimum, not a complete price.
