Prompt: make the AI check its own draft against your rules

Paste a draft and your rules; the AI lists every rule the draft breaks, then rewrites it. Tested on a generic template: it flagged the invented content, the missing facts and all 14 placeholders.

Works with: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot

The task

Catch invented facts, missing facts, placeholders and weak endings in an AI draft before it goes out.

Prompt
Check the draft below against my rules. List every rule it breaks, one short line each. Then rewrite it so it follows every rule.

MY RULES:
1. Use only these facts: [YOUR FACTS].
2. Under [N] words.
3. No placeholders in brackets.
4. End with one clear next step.

THE DRAFT:
[PASTE THE DRAFT]

How to use it

  1. Write your rules as a short numbered list: the facts to use, the length, no brackets, the ending you want.
  2. Paste the draft where it says so and run the prompt.
  3. Read the list of broken rules first, then the rewrite.
  4. Add anything the rewrite left out because you didn't give it (a name, a signature), then read it once more yourself.

What you get

One short line per broken rule, then a rewrite that follows every rule. When a rule can't be met with the facts given (no name, no signature), it says so instead of inventing one.

Example answer we got
**Rules the draft breaks**

1. **Rule 1 (only your facts):** It makes up content you never gave: a "completion date," sample reasons, fixes, an unchanged price, a partial delivery and a promised follow-up update. It also leaves out every fact you did give: October 15, the water heater, October 20 from 8 a.m. to noon, and the $50 off.
2. **Rule 2 (under 120 words):** It runs to about 200 words.
3. **Rule 3 (no bracketed placeholders):** It has 14 of them, from [Project Name] to [Phone / Email].
4. **Rule 4 (end with one clear next step):** It ends with a thank-you and a signature block. The only next steps in it are vague and split in two: "let me know" and "I'll send another update."

**Subject:** New date for your water heater installation

Hello,

Our supplier delayed your water heater, so we have to move your installation booked for Thursday, October 15.

Your new slot is Tuesday, October 20, 8 a.m. to noon. We're sorry for the delay, and we're taking $50 off the labour.

Please reply to this email to confirm that the new slot works for you.

The rewrite is about 63 words. You didn't give a client name or your own name, so the greeting has no name and there's no signature. If you add your name under the last line, the email still ends on the next step.
